Jeremy Bauman

Jeremy Bauman is a native of Waterloo, Ontario. He attended Wilfrid Laurier University where he studied both violin and viola under Jerzy Kaplanek and Christine Vlajk, respectively, of the Penderecki String Quartet. He switched to viola full-time in his final year at university, and since then spent a year studying with Steve Dann at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto.

Jeremy is a member of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and has been for nearly 10 years. Prior to his time in Calgary, Jeremy was a Fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida for two years. He has performed throughout Europe as a member of various projects including the Britten-Pears Orchestra in the UK, Germany, and Holland, the Lucerne Festival Academy in Switzerland and France, and the Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Sweden.

He plays on a viola made in the 1980s by Canadian luthier Otto Erdesz. Outside of music, he loves the outdoors: going skiing, trail running and rock climbing and practices Vipassana Meditation regularly on his own and at 10-day retreats.
